1. What is copywriting?

Copywriting is the art of taking a client’s notes or brief and writing a new piece that satisfies the client’s aims. The copywriting may take any form – a brochure, a manual, an advertisement, a presentation or any other written form.

2. What is proofreading?

This is a check for unnoticed errors in the text. By requesting proofreading you are ensuring that your work has no embarrassing errors that might leave a poor impression of your work, on your clients. We guarantee that, once proofread, your text will be error free.

3. What is editing?

Editing is a deeper level check on the text than proofreading. Every sentence is weighed for style and grammar and rewritten, as necessary, to achieve clearer communication and better flow. An edited text has a higher standard of English than an unedited one. This gives a better impression of your company to any client. However, the essential meaning of the text is not changed, by editing, so that you can be sure your message is getting across, as desired.

4. What PR services do you offer?

We write high-impact press releases that get you covered. We then present the releases to appropriate media and liaise with them to get the results you want. We can also advise you on how to handle any interviews that result – or we can be your spokesperson, as you wish.

5. What do you need to know, to get started?

Before we can give you an accurate quote, we need to know exactly what it is that you want. Please tell us:

1)      What kind of end product would you like? Is it a brochure, a manual, a newsletter, a presentation (if so, for what purpose) and so on. Tell us exactly what you would like.

2)      How many pages, what size of page (A4, A5, web page etc.), and how many words per page would you like? Would like us to recommend a number of words per page, for greatest legibility?

3)      It it is for the web, we would like to see a site map.

4)      Would you like us to optimize your web pages for search engines?

5)      Is this a copywriting, editing or proofreading task? Price will vary, depending on which one, for they have differing levels of time and complexity.

6)      If it is a copywriting task, how much information are you able to give us and how much must we source from our own research?

7)      For copywriting, we need to have clear instructions concerning what you want to achieve. Who is your audience? What do you seek to achieve with them? What key points do you want to communicate to them? Is there anything special about your company or situation that it would be of benefit for them to know? Tell us as much about your company as you can.

6. How do you charge?

We charge a fair price for the high quality work we do. All fees are in Singapore dollars which makes us particularly attractive to overseas clients. There are many companies, in Singapore, charging higher fees, but producing work of lesser quality than what we offer.

Editing and proofreading charges are calculated, at a fixed rate, on the number of words. Copywriting pricing depends on the individual requirements of the task – in terms of background research, complexity, length and creativity required. As ever, however, we will offer good value.

7. When can you start?

We can start the moment you have signed the quotation and made any necessary payment to us.

8. When will you finish?

That depends on the job. We will tell you how long it will take, at the outset. There should be no delays, if you respond promptly to any communications regarding the work.

We will keep you informed as to progress.

9. How many times will you rewrite?

We have never been asked to rewrite. Typically, a client will ask for only minor changes, which will be made, as necessary. Should a rewrite be necessary, however, it will be done in accordance with our terms and conditions.

Editing and proofreading are only ever done once. Should you wish it to be done again, a new contract and payment will be required, at the original rate. Again, so far, no-one has found it necessary to do so.

10. In what format is the work delivered?

We like to work in Microsoft Word and will usually deliver the work in that format, via email attachment. If you have need of another way, special arrangements can be made.

11. Can you advise me of what is best for me?

Yes. We can take a look at your aims and advise on how it is best to achieve those aims. We will always give you our reasons for why we think things should be the way we suggest.

It is always best to clarify, at the outset, exactly what it is you seek to achieve. You may feedback to us, at each step of the way, what you think about our suggestions and we can adjust accordingly, as is suitable.

12. Can we meet you to discuss our needs?

Yes, of course – if it is convenient for you. There is no need, however, to meet, for we are able to work with you via email and phone, wherever you are in the world.

13. Do you do package deals?

Yes. We can come to some discount pricing arrangement, with you, if you are a regular client, with ongoing work, throughout the year.

14. Can you handle technical or scientific material?

Usually, yes. Valentine Cawley is a Master’s Degree holder from Cambridge University in Natural Sciences and is familiar with a broad range of technical terminology – and has the ability to acquire new technical vocabulary, quickly. Just show us the type of material and tell us what you want done with it and we will see if it is possible.

15.What kinds of project can you handle?

Almost anything. We have very broad ranging writing experience from adverts to books and would be able to write or edit virtually anything. All that is necessary is that you make your wishes clear, in your brief, and let us know whatever you can, as background to allow us to get to work.

16. How do I pay you?

You may pay via cheque via mail, direct bank transfer, or cash, at our office, if you are based in Singapore. If you are overseas, PayPal allows simple and easy payment. It is free of charge to get a PayPal account if you don’t have one. Our terms and conditions state how much is to be paid at each stage in the work flow.
